Eco Tourism – Activities

The DBR offers a number of trails that pass through different types of forests.  A resident guide with varied knowledge including birds and nature will accompany you on the walks and offer information about ecology in the area.

Walk 1: To the Durika Waterfall and the hydroelectric project.  2 hours  All seasons Comfortable clothing and bathing suit
Long walk 2 -To the reforestation project.  2 hours All seasons For all those interested
Walk 3:  Primary forest 2 hours All seasons Good physical conditions.
Tour of the community – A half a day tour that will allow you to see the principals of organic agriculture that are successfully put into practice and you can become familiar with the different types of organic fertilizers that are made completely in the community (compost, foliar fertilizers made from fruits and chilies). 6 hours All seasons For all interested.
Walk 5:  to a small local farming community to see a traditional ‘trapiche’ where the raw brown sugar is made from sugar cane. 8 hours  All seasons Good physical conditions
Walk 6:  To Ujarrás, a Cabécar indigenous reserve.  You can possibly see local craftsmen making bows and arrows and woven bags. 8 hours All seasons Good physical conditions
Walk 7:  To the Amistad International Park and to the Continental Divide (Arbolado mountain). 2 to 3 days  All seasons Good physical conditions
Walk 8:  To Durika Mountain.  You will pass through different types of primary forests and hear about the ancient indigenous legends.   This tour is for a minimum of 2 people. 4 to 5 days November to February  Excellent physical conditions
Vegetarian cooking – This vegetarian cooking class requires a minimum of 12 people, within the community or elsewhere. From a few hours to various days. All seasons The course is flexible and the only requirement is to have interest in vegetarian cooking
Yoga, Kung Fu or meditation:  We practice these disciplines in our daily lives.  A formal class of yoga will require a minimum of 10 people. From a few hours to various days. All seasons To have interest in these disciplines.
Shaman tour:  This tour presents a unique opportunity to learn about the origins of natural medicine with herbs and of the customs of our indigenous.  The program contemplates a visit to the Southern Pacific Ethnic race in Costa Rica that still exist and are present in Costa Rica (Cabécar, Bribrí, Boruca, Terraba, Guaimi) which are found in the communities of Ujarrás, Salitre, Boruca, Curre, Alto Conte and Chiroles.  Due to the uniqueness of this tour, at least one month of anticipation is asked for and this tour is for a minimum of 5 people. From 5 to 7 days. All seasons Good physical conditions and a special interest in medicinal plants
